BMW 2 Series — Specs, Trims, Prices & Owner Reviews
The BMW 2 Series is the brand's smallest rear-drive coupe. Its second generation, code-named G42, arrived for the 2022 model year and moved the car onto BMW's CLAR architecture shared with the 3 and 4 Series, growing about 4.3 inches in length and 2.6 inches in width over the F22 it replaced while keeping rear-wheel drive, a 50:50 weight balance and a strut-front, five-link-rear suspension. Unlike the first generation it is built in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, and it is sold only as a two-door coupe — the F23 convertible was retired after 2021.

BMW 2 Series: General Information
The U.S. lineup is deliberately simple: a 255-hp 2.0-liter B48 turbo four in the 230i and a 382-hp 3.0-liter B58 turbo six in the M240i, both with an eight-speed Sport automatic and a choice of rear-wheel drive or xDrive. BMW launched for 2022 with just the 230i and M240i xDrive, then added 230i xDrive and rear-drive M240i for 2023. A separate high-performance M2 (G87) sits above the range, and the front-drive-based 2 Series Gran Coupe is a different car on a different platform.
Compared with the outgoing F22 the G42 is quicker and more efficient: the M240i xDrive reaches 60 mph in about 4.1 seconds while the 230i still returns up to 30 mpg combined. Prices span roughly $36,000 for an early 230i to about $55,000 for a 2026 M240i xDrive, and every version carries a 10.0 cu ft trunk and seating for four.

It launched at $37,900, or $38,850 with the $950 destination charge.
2015 BMW 2 Series 228i xDrive Convertible
