The BMW 5 Series is the brand's mid-size executive sedan. The eighth generation, code G60, reached the U.S. for the 2024 model year, growing about 3.4 inches longer and 1.3 inches wider than the G30 and adopting BMW's curved display with iDrive 8.5. It is the first 5 Series engineered from the outset to be offered as a battery-electric car as well — the i5 is its electric sibling — and every combustion version now uses 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance.
The U.S. line-up opened for 2024 with the 255-hp 530i and 530i xDrive and the 375-hp 540i xDrive, all with an eight-speed automatic. For 2025 BMW added the 550e xDrive plug-in hybrid, which pairs the 3.0-liter turbo six with an electric motor for 483 hp combined and roughly 40 miles of electric range. Standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch instrument display and 14.9-inch control screen, a Highway Assistant hands-free driving system on the options list, and BMW's Interaction Bar across the dashboard.
