Ford C-Max Energi: General Information

The Ford C-Max Energi was the plug-in hybrid member of Ford's five-seat C-Max compact multi-activity vehicle line. Ford launched it in the United States for the 2013 model year, combining the tall C-Max body with front-wheel drive, a charge port, and selectable EV Now, EV Auto, and EV Later modes. U.S. production ran through September 2017.

Throughout its U.S. run, the Energi used a 2.0L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, an electric traction motor, a 7.6-kWh lithium-ion battery, and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Ford rated the system at 195 hp in charge-depleting mode and 188 hp in charge-sustaining mode. Final EPA ratings reached 95 MPGe combined on electricity and 39 mpg combined on gasoline, with a 20-mile electric range and 570-mile total range.

The Energi was sold only as an SEL through 2016, then gained SE and Titanium choices for its final model year. Its battery reduced cargo volume to 19.2 cu ft behind the rear seat and 42.8 cu ft with the rear seat folded, while new pricing over the model's run generally sat from the upper-$20,000s into the low-$30,000s before destination.
