The Shelby GT350 name began with Carroll Shelby's competition-oriented 1965 Mustang. Ford revived it as an in-house Ford Performance model on the sixth-generation S550 platform with 137 limited-production 2015 cars before full production began for 2016; the GT350 and GT350R were discontinued after the 2020 model year.
Every S550 GT350 used a naturally aspirated 5.2L Voodoo flat-plane-crank V8, a TREMEC six-speed manual, and rear-wheel drive. The GT350R sharpened the same formula with carbon-fiber wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, more aggressive aerodynamics and chassis tuning, and a rear-seat delete.
