The Honda Civic is Honda's compact car and one of the longest-running nameplates in the United States. Across eleven generations it has grown from a subcompact economy hatchback into a full compact family car, and it is consistently among the best-selling passenger cars in America. Every U.S. Civic uses a transverse four-cylinder engine driving the front wheels, and the range is built around two body styles: a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback.
The lineup splits into a value core (LX and Sport), a better-equipped upper tier (EX/EX-L and Touring grades, which Honda replaced with hybrid Sport and Sport Touring grades for the 2025 model year), and two enthusiast models — the manual-only Si sedan and the Type R hatchback, which is catalogued separately. Mainstream trims use a continuously variable automatic; a six-speed manual has been reserved for the Si, the Type R and, for several years, the hatchback's Sport and Sport Touring grades.
