Two generations were sold in America. It was offered in a single trim with escalating Style and Tech option packages, and a panoramic glass roof was on the options list. The third-generation i30 (code PD) arrived for 2018 with a 161–162-hp 2.0-liter base engine and a 201-hp 1.6-liter turbo in the Elantra GT Sport, which was renamed Elantra GT N Line for 2019 and given stiffer springs, extra body welds, a bigger rear anti-roll bar and revised damping. Hyundai discontinued the Elantra GT in the U.S. and Canada after the 2020 model year and pointed hatchback shoppers at the Venue and Kona crossovers instead.

The 2016 Elantra GT got the GD generation's mid-cycle freshening, shown at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show and on sale from March 2015: a reshaped hexagonal grille and front fascia that pulled it into Hyundai's newer family look, new 17-inch "Euroflange" alloys on upper cars, and an expanded list of technology and convenience options. Mechanically nothing changed — the 173-hp 2.0-liter Nu direct-injected four carries over with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic — and pricing held at $18,800. Car and Driver judged it entertaining but short of the buttoned-down composure of a Golf GTI or Civic Sport hatch.
