The Hyundai Elantra GT is the American name for the Hyundai i30 five-door hatchback, sold in the United States and Canada from the 2013 through the 2020 model year. It replaced the i30-based Elantra Touring wagon in the lineup and, despite the shared badge, it is not a hatchback version of the Elantra sedan — it is a separate car developed at Hyundai's European technical centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and built in Ulsan, South Korea. That European brief gave it a firmer chassis tune, a more solid interior and a genuine load bay in place of the sedan's trunk.
Two generations were sold in America. The second-generation i30 (code GD) covered the 2013–2017 model years: it launched with a 148-hp 1.8-liter Nu four, then switched for 2014 to a 173-hp 2.0-liter Nu direct-injected engine because critics said the 1.8 wasn't sporty enough for a car called GT. It was offered in a single trim with escalating Style and Tech option packages, and a panoramic glass roof was on the options list. The third-generation i30 (code PD) arrived for 2018 with a 161–162-hp 2.0-liter base engine and a 201-hp 1.6-liter turbo in the Elantra GT Sport, which was renamed Elantra GT N Line for 2019 and given stiffer springs, extra body welds, a bigger rear anti-roll bar and revised damping. Hyundai discontinued the Elantra GT in the U.S. and Canada after the 2020 model year and pointed hatchback shoppers at the Venue and Kona crossovers instead.
