The Hyundai Santa Fe XL is the three-row, long-wheelbase version of the third-generation (DM) Santa Fe, and it wore the XL badge in the United States for exactly one model year. From 2013 through 2018 this same car was sold simply as the "Santa Fe" while the shorter two-row model was the Santa Fe Sport; when the all-new fourth-generation (TM) Santa Fe arrived for 2019 and took the plain name, Hyundai kept the old long-wheelbase car in showrooms for one final season and renamed it Santa Fe XL. Outside North America the same vehicle was sold as the Grand Santa Fe or, in Korea, the Maxcruz.
North America got a single powertrain: Hyundai's 3.3-liter Lambda II V6 with direct injection, rated at 290 hp and 252 lb-ft — the highest output in its class when the car launched — driving through a six-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic to the front wheels or an optional on-demand all-wheel-drive system. The XL rides on a 110.2-inch wheelbase, 3.9 inches longer than the Santa Fe Sport's, and measures 193.1 inches overall. It is rated to tow 5,000 pounds, comfortably more than the four-cylinder Sport.
