The Ford Fusion Energi was the plug-in-hybrid version of Ford's second-generation midsize Fusion sedan. U.S. retail sales began in 2013, and the Energi remained front-wheel drive with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission throughout its 2013-2020 model-year run.
The Energi combined a 2.0L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder with an electric motor and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery mounted behind the rear seats. Early versions used a 7.6-kWh battery, while 2019 and 2020 models used a 9.0-kWh pack; system output was 188 hp, final EPA electric range reached 26 miles, and the battery reduced trunk capacity to 8.2 cu ft.
