The Hyundai Azera is the full-size, front-wheel-drive sedan that sat at the top of Hyundai's own-brand American range for most of its life. Sold in the United States from the 2006 model year as the replacement for the XG350, it is known almost everywhere else as the Hyundai Grandeur — a nameplate that dates back to a rebadged Mitsubishi Debonair in 1986. In the U.S. it slotted above the mid-size Sonata and below the rear-drive Genesis sedan, chasing the Toyota Avalon, Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet Impala, Nissan Maxima and its corporate cousin the Kia Cadenza.
Two generations reached American showrooms. The fourth-generation TG car (2006–2011) offered 3.3- and 3.8-liter Lambda V6s with five- and six-speed automatics. The fifth-generation HG car, sold here for the 2012–2017 model years, moved to the longer Y6 platform shared with the Sonata and Kia Cadenza and simplified the range to a single 293-hp 3.3-liter Lambda II GDI V6 with a six-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic. A mid-cycle facelift arrived for 2015 with a new grille, revised bumpers, standard 18-inch wheels, an eight-inch touchscreen and standard blind-spot detection. Hyundai never brought the sixth-generation IG Grandeur to North America — after the 2017 model year the Azera left the U.S. lineup, and with the Genesis sedan and Equus moving to the new Genesis brand, the Sonata became Hyundai's largest American car.
Standout traits of the HG Azera are an unusually generous standard-equipment list for the money — navigation, leather, a rearview camera, blind-spot detection and a 550-watt Infinity audio system on the base car — plus 107 cubic feet of passenger volume, a 16.3-cubic-foot trunk and Hyundai's 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. What it never delivered was steering feel or handling to match the Avalon. U.S. EPA ratings across the 2015–2017 cars run 19–20 mpg city and 28–29 mpg highway, and base prices spanned roughly $34,000 to $39,300 before destination.

The base Azera opens the refreshed 2015 range at $34,000 before destination and is the only other trim besides the Limited. This is the mid-cycle facelift year: a redesigned grille, new front and rear bumper fascias, standard 18-inch alloy wheels, a hands-free smart trunk opener and a new center stack built around a standard eight-inch touchscreen with navigation. Power still comes from the 293-hp 3.3-liter Lambda II direct-injected V6 driving the front wheels through a six-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic.

The Azera Limited tops the 2015 lineup at $38,200 before destination, adding 19-inch wheels, LED fog lights, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, rear and side window sunshades and a power rear sunshade. It also unlocks the year's new active-safety options — lane departure warning, forward collision warning and automatic high beam assist. The heavier, larger-wheeled Limited gives up a little economy, at 19 mpg city and 28 highway.
