Hyundai Santa Fe: General Information
The Hyundai Santa Fe is the crossover that made Hyundai a real SUV brand in the United States. Launched for the 2001 model year and named after the New Mexico capital, it has run through five generations and has been built in Montgomery, Alabama since 2006. For most of its life it has sat one size above the Tucson and, since 2020, one size below the three-row Palisade.
The fifth-generation MX5 car, unveiled in Santa Fe, New Mexico in August 2023 and on sale from March 2024, is the biggest reinvention the nameplate has seen. Hyundai threw out the rounded fourth-generation shape for a squared-off, Defender-adjacent body with H-pattern LED lighting, stretched the wheelbase to 110.8 inches and — for the first time since 2018 — put a third row back in the American Santa Fe. The shifter moved to the steering column to free up console space for twin wireless charging pads, and a curved panoramic display combines two 12.3-inch screens. Powertrains narrowed to two: a 277-hp 2.5-liter turbo four and a 231-hp 1.6-liter turbo hybrid, both offered with front- or all-wheel drive. In July 2025, for the 2026 model year, Hyundai replaced the turbo's eight-speed dual-clutch with a conventional torque-converter eight-speed automatic.
Across the tracked years the Santa Fe has spanned roughly 185 to 290 horsepower, EPA figures from 18 mpg city for the old V6 to 37 mpg city for the current hybrid, and base prices from about $25,750 to just over $50,000. Its consistent selling points are space for the money, a long feature list at every trim level and Hyundai's 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS
GLS is the entry point to the long-wheelbase three-row Santa Fe for 2015, opening at $30,150 with front-wheel drive. Every version uses the same 290-hp 3.3-liter direct-injected Lambda II V6 and six-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic, so the GLS gives up nothing on power — only equipment, riding on 18-inch alloys instead of 19s. Standard kit includes seven-passenger seating, tri-zone climate control with rear ventilation ducts, a rearview camera, heated front seats and an eight-way power driver's seat.
2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited
Limited is the top 2015 Santa Fe at $34,250 in front-drive form. It swaps in leather upholstery, a power front passenger seat, 19-inch alloy wheels, proximity key with push-button start, an auto-dimming mirror with HomeLink, blind-spot monitoring and a leather-wrapped wheel, while keeping the same 290-hp V6. Hyundai also offered a no-cost Saddle leather interior on Limited cars for 2015.

For 2016 Hyundai renamed the base three-row Santa Fe from GLS to SE, and raised the price $250 to $30,400. Mechanically nothing changed: the 290-hp 3.3-liter direct-injected V6 and six-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic carry over, as do seven-passenger seating, 18-inch alloys, tri-zone climate control and a 5,000-lb tow rating. Rear-seat legroom of 41.3 inches remains among the best in the segment.
2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited
The 2016 Limited lists at $34,500, up $250 on the year. It adds leather upholstery, 19-inch alloys, a power passenger seat, proximity key with push-button start, an auto-dimming mirror and a heated steering wheel option, and for 2016 the driver-assist list grows to include lane departure warning alongside the existing blind-spot monitor. Power still comes from the 290-hp 3.3-liter V6.

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe SE
2017 brought the three-row Santa Fe its mid-cycle facelift — restyled headlights and tail lights, a new grille and revised bumpers — and the base SE opens at $30,800. The 290-hp 3.3-liter V6 and six-speed automatic carry over, along with seven-passenger seating, 18-inch alloys and tri-zone climate control. The SE is the only 2017 trim that keeps the old 18/25 mpg EPA rating.
2017 Hyundai Santa Fe SE Ultimate
New for 2017, SE Ultimate bundles the top technology onto the cloth-and-leather SE body at $38,700. It brings 19-inch wheels, an Infinity premium audio system, a panoramic sunroof, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats with memory, a heated steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors and a surround-view monitor. The 3.3-liter V6 is unchanged but the heavier equipment drops EPA figures to 17/23 mpg.
2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited
The 2017 Limited sits at $34,950 and adds leather seating, a six-way power front passenger seat, heated rear seats, 18-inch alloys, proximity key with push-button start and an auto-dimming mirror over the SE. Like every 2017 Santa Fe it uses the 290-hp 3.3-liter V6 with a six-speed automatic, and it is rated 17/23 mpg with front drive. This is the last model year for a plain Limited trim on the three-row car.

Limited Ultimate is the flagship 2017 Santa Fe, listing at $39,400 with front drive and $41,150 with all-wheel drive — the most expensive three-row Santa Fe Hyundai ever sold. It combines the Limited's leather cabin with the Ultimate package's 19-inch wheels, Infinity audio, navigation, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, memory driver's seat and full camera and parking-sensor suite.

The 2018 SE opens the range at $30,850 and is the last three-row Santa Fe to wear the plain "Santa Fe" badge before the name moved to the new two-row model for 2019. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became standard this year, joining the carried-over 290-hp 3.3-liter V6, six-speed automatic, seven-passenger cabin, 18-inch alloys and tri-zone climate control. It remains the only 2018 trim rated 18/25 mpg.
2018 Hyundai Santa Fe SE Ultimate
SE Ultimate carries the full technology package on the cloth-seat body at $38,850 for 2018. New this year is a 12-speaker, 590-watt Infinity surround audio system with subwoofer, added to the existing panoramic sunroof, navigation, 19-inch alloys, ventilated and heated front seats, memory driver's seat, heated steering wheel and full camera and parking-sensor suite. It is the final model year for the SE Ultimate trim.

Limited Ultimate tops the 2018 range at $39,550 with front drive and $41,300 with all-wheel drive, and with the plain Limited dropped this year it is the only leather-lined three-row Santa Fe on offer. It pairs the leather cabin, heated rear seats and blind-spot monitoring with the Ultimate package's 19-inch wheels, panoramic roof, navigation and 12-speaker Infinity audio. 2019 is the first year of the all-new fourth-generation TM Santa Fe, which drops to two rows and five seats but undercuts the old car by nearly $5,000 — the SE starts at $25,750. Offered only for 2019, SEL Plus splits the difference between SEL and Limited at $29,800. Limited returns to the Santa Fe for 2019 as the first leather-lined trim of the new generation, at $32,600 with the 2.4-liter four or $34,200 with the 235-hp 2.0-liter turbo. Ultimate tops the 2019 range, listing at $35,450 with the 2.4 and $37,100 with the 2.0-liter turbo, rising to $38,800 for a turbocharged all-wheel-drive car. For 2020 Hyundai simplified the Santa Fe lineup to three trims and made more safety gear standard, with the SE opening at $26,275 — up $525 on the year. 2021 brings the first Santa Fe Hybrid to the United States, and Blue is the entry point at $33,650. A 1.6-liter turbocharged four and a 44-kW electric motor fed by a 1.49-kWh lithium-ion polymer pack combine for 226 hp through a conventional six-speed automatic, with HTRAC all-wheel drive standard. Blue is the efficiency leader of the range at 36/31 mpg.
2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid SEL Premium
SEL Premium is the mid hybrid at $37,600 and the only 2021 Santa Fe to wear the SEL Premium name. 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid SEL Convenience
2022 introduces the Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid to the United States, and SEL Convenience is the entry point at $40,000. A 1.6-liter turbo four and a 66.9-kW motor draw on a 13.8-kWh battery for 261 combined hp, standard all-wheel drive and an EPA-rated 31 miles of electric range. EPA figures are 76 MPGe combined and 33 mpg once the battery is depleted.

2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid Limited
Limited is the top plug-in hybrid and the most expensive 2022 Santa Fe of any kind at $46,010. It carries the same 261-hp powertrain and 31-mile electric range as the SEL Convenience but adds leather seating, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, surround-view monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor, heated steering wheel and 12-speaker Infinity audio.

2023 Hyundai Santa Fe
2023 Hyundai Santa Fe SE
2023 is the final year of the fourth-generation TM Santa Fe, and the SE opens the range at $28,750 — up $1,050 on the year. The 191-hp 2.5-liter four and eight-speed automatic carry over untouched, as do 17-inch alloys, an eight-inch touchscreen and Hyundai's standard SmartSense driver-assistance suite.
2023 Hyundai Santa Fe SEL
The 2023 SEL jumps $3,000 to $32,450 because Hyundai folded the previously optional Convenience Package into the standard specification. That brings a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver's seat, 18-inch alloys, a proximity key and a wireless charging pad, all on the 191-hp 2.5-liter four.
2023 Hyundai Santa Fe XRT
XRT returns for its second and final TM model year at $34,250. It is an appearance package built on the SEL: black grille, black mirror caps, black roof rails, black 18-inch alloys, unique badging and a dark cabin, still driven by the 191-hp 2.5-liter four. Ground clearance and the 2,000-lb tow rating are unchanged from the rest of the naturally aspirated line.

2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid SEL Convenience
The plug-in hybrid returns for a second and final American model year, with SEL Convenience listing at $42,410 — a $2,410 rise. The 261-hp 1.6-liter turbo plug-in hybrid with a 13.8-kWh battery, standard all-wheel drive and about 30 miles of electric range is unchanged, as are its 76 MPGe combined and 33 mpg gas-mode EPA figures.

2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid Limited
Limited is the top plug-in hybrid and the most expensive 2023 Santa Fe at $47,670. It carries the same 261-hp powertrain and roughly 30-mile electric range as the SEL Convenience while adding leather seating, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, surround-view monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor, heated steering wheel and 12-speaker Infinity audio. It is the last Santa Fe PHEV sold in America.

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe
2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SE
2024 brings the completely redesigned, squared-off fifth-generation Santa Fe, and with it a third row of seats for the first time since 2018. The SE opens at $33,950 — a $5,200 jump over the 2023 base car, but for a longer, seven-seat vehicle with the 277-hp 2.5-liter turbo standard across the gas range. Twin 12.3-inch curved displays, a column shifter, dual wireless charging pads and Hyundai SmartSense are all included.
2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SEL
SEL is the volume 2024 Santa Fe at $36,450 and adds heated front seats, a power driver's seat, a hands-free power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and 18-inch alloys over the SE. It uses the same 277-hp 2.5-liter turbo and eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and Convenience and Premium option packages sit above it.
2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid SEL
The hybrid returns for 2024 with new trim names, and SEL Hybrid is the entry point at $36,950 — only $500 above the equivalent gas SEL. A 1.6-liter turbo four and electric motor now make 231 combined hp through a six-speed automatic, and unlike the previous generation all-wheel drive is optional rather than standard. Front-drive cars are rated 36 mpg city and 36 mpg combined.
2024 Hyundai Santa Fe XRT
XRT is reinvented for 2024 as a genuine light-duty off-road trim rather than an appearance package, and it is all-wheel drive only at $40,600. It gets a 1.1-inch lift over the standard car, XRT-specific front and rear bumpers with better approach and departure angles, black cladding, tow hooks, roof rails and 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Those tires cost it fuel economy: 19/26 mpg, the lowest of the range.

Limited is the second-from-top 2024 gas trim at $43,350. It adds Nappa leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a panoramic sunroof, 12-speaker Bose premium audio, a head-up display, surround-view monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor, Remote Smart Parking Assist and 20-inch alloys, all on the 277-hp 2.5-liter turbo.

Limited Hybrid lists at $43,850, just $500 above the gas Limited, and pairs that trim's Nappa leather, Bose audio, head-up display and 20-inch wheels with the 231-hp 1.6-liter turbo hybrid and six-speed automatic.
