BMW M8: General Information

The BMW M8 was the M division's flagship, launched for the 2020 model year to replace the M6 and built on the 8 Series. It uses the 4.4-liter twin-turbo S63 V8 with M xDrive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic — 600 hp in standard form, 617 hp as the Competition.

Three bodies were sold: the F92 coupe, the F91 convertible and the four-door F93 Gran Coupe. The standard M8 was dropped after 2021, leaving the Competition as the only version from 2022 onward. The 2021 model year is unusual — EPA certified only the convertible and Gran Coupe, with no M8 Coupe listed at all.

Every M8 reaches 60 mph in around three seconds and returns 17 mpg combined. BMW ended M8 production in October 2025, making 2025 its final model year; no 2026 M8 was sold.
