The BMW XM is only the second standalone model in M division history after the M1, and the first M car built as a plug-in hybrid. Launched for the 2023 model year and built in Spartanburg, South Carolina, it pairs a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor in the gearbox for 644 hp, or 738 hp in Label Red form.
It is a deliberately confrontational thing: 201 inches long, over 6,000 lb, with a split headlight treatment, a vast illuminated grille and a gold-accented interior with a faceted headliner. About 30 miles of electric range make short commutes possible without starting the V8.
