Ford Fusion Hybrid: General Information
The Ford Fusion Hybrid was the gasoline-electric version of Ford's midsize Fusion sedan. It launched in the United States for the 2010 model year and remained distinct from the plug-in Fusion Energi, using a full-hybrid system that could propel the car with gasoline power, electric power, or both.
A redesigned second generation arrived for 2013 on Ford's CD4 platform. It replaced the first generation's nickel-metal-hydride battery and 2.5L engine with a 1.4-kWh lithium-ion battery, a 2.0L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder, a permanent-magnet electric motor, and Ford's HF35 electronic continuously variable transmission.
Across its run, the Fusion Hybrid paired regenerative braking and SmartGauge efficiency displays with a five-seat cabin and the road manners of the regular Fusion. Later cars produced 188 hp and carried a 42-mpg EPA combined rating; new pricing in the final model year ran from the upper-$20,000s to the mid-$30,000s before the Fusion Hybrid ended after 2020.
