The Honda Pilot is Honda's largest three-row crossover SUV and has been sold in the United States since the 2003 model year, built alongside the Odyssey and Ridgeline at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama in Lincoln. Every generation has used a transverse 3.5-liter V6 driving the front wheels, with Honda's i-VTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system offered across the range. The Pilot sits above the two-row Passport in Honda's SUV lineup and competes with the Toyota Highlander, Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, Subaru Ascent and Ford Explorer.
The third generation (model code YF5/YF6, 2016-2022) replaced the boxy second-generation truck look with a sleeker, more aerodynamic body and a lighter structure. It made 280 hp from a direct-injected 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6, initially with a six-speed automatic on lower trims and a ZF nine-speed on the top grades. A 2019 facelift brought new bumpers, standard LED headlights, an updated infotainment system and made the Honda Sensing driver-assist suite standard across the lineup; the nine-speed automatic became standard on every trim for 2021.
