The Hyundai Tucson is Hyundai's compact crossover SUV, named after Tucson, Arizona, and sold in the United States since the 2005 model year. It has always been developed alongside the Kia Sportage, sharing platforms and engines with its corporate cousin, and it slots below the Santa Fe in Hyundai's American SUV range. With more than seven million sold worldwide it is Hyundai's single best-selling nameplate, and in the U.S. it competes head-on with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, Nissan Rogue, Mazda CX-5 and Subaru Forester.
Four generations have reached America. The first-generation JM (2005–2009) was an Elantra-based crossover offered with a 2.0-liter four or a 2.7-liter V6. The second-generation LM (2010–2015), sold as the ix35 in Europe and Australia, moved to "fluidic sculpture" styling and four-cylinder power only. The third-generation TL (2016–2021) grew again, introduced a 1.6-liter turbo with a seven-speed dual-clutch, and was facelifted for 2019 with a 2.4-liter replacing the turbo. The fourth-generation NX4 (2022–present) is built in Montgomery, Alabama in a long-wheelbase form unique to North America, added conventional hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains for the first time, and was facelifted for 2025 with a new interior and a column-mounted gear selector.
Standout traits are Hyundai's 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, an unusually deep feature list at every price point, and — from 2022 — one of the few compact crossovers offering gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the same body. Power across the American cars has ranged from 161 hp for the base 2.0-liter to 268 hp for the plug-in hybrid; EPA figures run from about 20 mpg city for an early all-wheel-drive 2.4 to 38 mpg combined for the front-drive Hybrid Blue. Base prices have climbed from roughly $19,000 in the mid-2010s to the high $28,000s for the most recent model years.

2015 Hyundai Tucson GLS
The GLS is the entry 2015 Tucson and the only one with the 164-hp 2.0-liter Nu direct-injected four, opening at $21,650 with front-wheel drive. Every 2015 Tucson uses a six-speed Shiftronic automatic — there is no manual — and all-wheel drive is a $1,500 option on any trim, which is unusual in a class that normally reserves AWD for bigger engines. New for 2015 is an optional Popular Equipment Package that finally brings a rearview camera and a 4.3-inch touchscreen down to the base car.
2015 Hyundai Tucson SE
SE is the volume 2015 Tucson at $23,700 front-drive, and the cheapest way into the 182-hp 2.4-liter Theta II GDI four. The Car Connection's advice was to skip the 2.0-liter entirely, since the bigger engine costs only about 1–2 mpg and never has to be prodded to keep up. Equipment over the GLS includes heated front seats, a power driver's seat, a rearview camera and a 4.3-inch touchscreen audio system as standard.
2015 Hyundai Tucson Limited
Limited tops the 2015 range at $26,450 front-drive and $27,950 with all-wheel drive, and is the only 2015 Tucson with leather seating, dual-zone automatic climate control, pushbutton start and Hyundai's Blue Link telematics. Its one visual change for 2015 is that LED taillights became standard equipment. A Technology Package bundles a seven-inch navigation touchscreen, 360-watt audio, HD Radio, voice recognition and a panoramic sunroof.

2016 Hyundai Tucson SE
SE is the entry point to the completely redesigned third-generation (TL) Tucson, at $22,700 with front-wheel drive. It is the only 2016 Tucson to keep the old 164-hp 2.0-liter Nu four and a conventional six-speed automatic, and reviewers found it feels peppier off the line than the turbocharged trims. The new body is longer, wider and roomier than the 2015 car, with cargo volume up to 61.9 cubic feet, but the SE's cabin is trimmed almost entirely in hard plastic and gets a 5.0-inch screen.
2016 Hyundai Tucson Eco
Eco is new for 2016 and the cheapest way into the 175-hp 1.6-liter turbo and its seven-speed EcoShift dual-clutch gearbox, at $24,150 front-drive. Because it keeps the SE's 17-inch wheels rather than the 19s worn by Sport and Limited, it is the most economical 2016 Tucson at 26/33 mpg — 2 mpg better in the city and 3 mpg better on the highway than the identically powered Sport. Equipment adds a power driver's seat and roof rails over the SE.

Sport is also new for 2016, listing at $26,150 front-drive, and builds on the Eco with 19-inch wheels, pushbutton keyless ignition, heated front seats and — a segment novelty — a hands-free smart liftgate that opens on its own after the key fob has sat near the tailgate for three seconds. It is the cheapest 2016 Tucson with blind-spot detection, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. The bigger wheels cost it fuel economy: 25/30 mpg versus the Eco's 26/33.

Limited tops the 2016 range at $29,900 front-drive and $31,300 with all-wheel drive, and is the only trim with leather, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen navigation system and Blue Link telematics. The optional Ultimate Package pushes it into near-luxury territory with a panoramic roof, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, HID headlights and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection — the configuration that earned the 2016 Tucson an IIHS Top Safety Pick+.

2017 Hyundai Tucson SE
SE carries over as the entry 2017 Tucson at $22,700 front-drive, and The Car Connection notes it is the only trim level still using the 164-hp 2.0-liter four and a conventional six-speed automatic. Two new option groups — Preferred and Popular Equipment — add LED daytime running lights, roof rails and one-touch power windows. Standard kit already runs to alloy wheels, Bluetooth, satellite radio, a rearview camera and a 5.0-inch colour touchscreen.
2017 Hyundai Tucson Eco
Eco is the mileage champion of the 2017 range at $24,150 front-drive, pairing the 175-hp 1.6-liter turbo and seven-speed dual-clutch with aerodynamic 17-inch wheels and low-rolling-resistance tires that are worth as much as 2 mpg. It also bundles most of the SE's Preferred and Popular Equipment content as standard. 2017 turned out to be its last U.S. model year — the Eco was gone from the 2018 lineup.
2017 Hyundai Tucson Sport
Sport lists at $25,900 front-drive and is where the 2017 Tucson picks up its driver aids — blind-spot monitors, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert — along with 19-inch alloys, proximity key, heated front seats and the hands-free smart liftgate. For 2017 Hyundai also upgraded the Sport's door-panel materials to the nicer trim previously reserved for the Limited. The 19-inch wheels cost it about 2 mpg against the Eco.
2017 Hyundai Tucson Value
Value is a new 2017 addition slotted at $26,550 front-drive, aimed at buyers who want the turbocharged powertrain with a well-chosen equipment list rather than the Sport's 19-inch wheels. Like every 2017 Tucson above the SE it uses the 175-hp 1.6-liter turbo with the seven-speed dual-clutch. The nameplate stuck: Value stayed in the U.S. Tucson lineup right through the third generation's final 2021 model year.
2017 Hyundai Tucson SE Plus
SE Plus appears for 2017 only, at $26,750 front-drive, adding content to the SE's specification while moving to the turbocharged powertrain used by the rest of the range. It was a one-year experiment: for 2018 Hyundai renamed the whole middle of the lineup and the equivalent car became the SEL Plus. Front- and all-wheel drive were both offered, as on every other 2017 Tucson.
2017 Hyundai Tucson Night
Night is a blacked-out appearance model introduced for 2017 at $27,800 front-drive, sitting just under the Limited. It pairs dark exterior accents and wheels with the 175-hp 1.6-liter turbo and seven-speed dual-clutch. Hyundai dropped it from the 2018 range, then revived it for the facelifted 2019 Tucson, where it became the second-most expensive trim in the lineup.

Limited tops the 2017 range at $29,775 front-drive and $31,175 with all-wheel drive. New for 2017 it gains Apple CarPlay and Android Auto alongside the 8.0-inch touchscreen navigation, leather seats and dual-zone climate control. It remains the only Tucson that can be ordered with automatic emergency braking — via the Ultimate Package — which is what earns the car its IIHS Top Safety Pick award.

SE opens the reshuffled 2018 lineup at $22,550 front-drive. Hyundai renamed the middle of the range this year — Eco, SE Plus and Night are gone, replaced by SEL and SEL Plus — but the SE itself carries on with the 164-hp 2.0-liter four and six-speed automatic. It is the only 2018 Tucson without a power driver's seat, and the only one still fitted with a CD player.

SEL is new for 2018, replacing the old SE Plus in Hyundai's renamed hierarchy, and lists at $23,800 front-drive. It keeps the 2.0-liter engine but adds the power driver's seat, heated front seats, HD and satellite radio, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — features the SE cannot be optioned with at any price.
2018 Hyundai Tucson Sport
Sport lists at $25,150 front-drive and is the cheapest 2018 Tucson with the 175-hp 1.6-liter turbo and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels, which sharpen the look but make the ride noticeably firmer over expansion joints. The Car Connection reckoned the turbo was the powertrain to have, calling the base 2.0-liter's only selling point its price.

Value lives up to its name at $26,550 front-drive, matching the Sport AWD's price while adding a long list of kit: rear parking sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless ignition, a hands-free power tailgate and a panoramic sunroof on top of 19-inch wheels and heated front seats. It also gets blind-spot monitors, which on the 2018 Tucson are otherwise a Limited-only item.
2018 Hyundai Tucson SEL Plus
SEL Plus is new for 2018 at $26,700 front-drive, effectively the old SE Plus under Hyundai's new naming. It shares the SEL's 2.0-liter powertrain but adds dual-zone climate control, LED exterior lighting and an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Hyundai dropped the name after this year — it did not return to the U.S. Tucson range until the 2026 model year.
2018 Hyundai Tucson Limited
Limited remains the flagship at $29,425 front-drive and $30,825 with all-wheel drive, and is still the only 2018 Tucson that can be fitted with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking — via the Ultimate Package, which also brings cooled front seats and heated rear seats. Leather upholstery, lane-departure warning and parking sensors are standard, and it uses the 1.6-liter turbo.

SE opens the facelifted 2019 range at $23,350 front-drive. The big news this year is under the hood elsewhere in the lineup — the 1.6-liter turbo and dual-clutch are gone — but the SE keeps the 161-hp 2.0-liter and six-speed automatic. What it does gain is a new 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus standard automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist, which used to be Limited-only.
2019 Hyundai Tucson Value
Value costs $24,800 front-drive and was The Car Connection's pick of the 2019 range. For $1,450 over the SE it adds an eight-way power driver's seat, heated front seats, keyless ignition, satellite and HD Radio, and blind-spot monitors. It keeps the cheaper 161-hp 2.0-liter engine, so it is also one of the two most economical 2019 Tucsons.
2019 Hyundai Tucson SEL
SEL is the cheapest 2019 Tucson with the new engine, at $25,750 front-drive. In place of last year's 175-hp 1.6-liter turbo and seven-speed dual-clutch, Hyundai fits a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter making 181 hp and 175 lb-ft through the six-speed automatic — smoother in traffic than the old DCT, if no faster. SEL also brings automatic climate control and extra USB ports.
2019 Hyundai Tucson Sport
Sport lists at $27,850 front-drive and layers appearance and audio upgrades onto the 2.4-liter powertrain: eight-speaker Infinity audio, LED headlights, wireless smartphone charging and its own exterior styling touches. It is also one of only two 2019 Tucsons — the other is the Ultimate — with the more sophisticated forward-collision system that includes pedestrian detection.

Limited costs $29,050 front-drive and $30,450 with all-wheel drive, adding leather upholstery, a power passenger seat and a heated steering wheel. It is also the cheapest 2019 Tucson with stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, and one of only two — with the Ultimate — that can be optioned with a surround-view camera system.
2019 Hyundai Tucson Night
Night returns for 2019 after skipping the 2018 model year, priced at $30,800 front-drive and $32,200 with all-wheel drive — above the Limited and just under the Ultimate. It pairs the blacked-out exterior treatment with the Limited's leather-lined cabin and the 181-hp 2.4-liter. This proved to be the Tucson Night's final U.S. model year; the name did not return for 2020 or 2021.
2019 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate
Ultimate is brand new for 2019 and tops the range at $31,700 front-drive, $33,100 with all-wheel drive. It converts the old Limited Ultimate Package into a trim level of its own: ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, an 8.0-inch navigation touchscreen, adaptive cruise control and forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian detection all come as standard.

This was its last outing: the Value name did not survive the switch to the fourth-generation car for 2022.

SEL was The Car Connection's pick of the 2021 range at $26,100 front-drive, because it is the cheapest Tucson with the 181-hp 2.4-liter four and it also brings 18-inch wheels, automatic climate control and extra USB ports. Real-world gains from the larger engine are slight — 22/28 mpg against the 2.0-liter's 23/28 — but the extra equipment makes the case.
2021 Hyundai Tucson Sport
Sport lists at $28,250 front-drive and adds LED headlights, eight-speaker Infinity audio, wireless smartphone charging and its own exterior detailing to the 2.4-liter powertrain. It is also one of only two 2021 Tucsons whose forward-collision system includes pedestrian detection. The Sport name, first used on the Tucson for 2016, did not carry over into the fourth-generation car.

SE opens the completely redesigned fourth-generation (NX4) Tucson at $24,950 front-drive. The new car is 6.1 inches longer on a 3.4-inch-longer wheelbase, wears Hyundai's origami-fold styling with LED running lights hidden inside the grille, and swaps the old 2.0- and 2.4-liter engines for a single 187-hp 2.5-liter with an eight-speed automatic. Even the base car gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay.
2022 Hyundai Tucson SEL
SEL costs $27,100 front-drive and is the volume 2022 Tucson, adding blind-spot monitors and stop-and-go adaptive cruise control to the SE's safety kit. The Car Connection singled out the SEL with the Convenience package — about $29,100 before destination — as the sweet spot, since it brings wireless charging, a power sunroof, a 10.3-inch digital instrument panel and a power liftgate.
2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line
N Line is new to the U.S. Tucson for 2022, at $31,200 front-drive. It is purely a styling and trim exercise — The Car Connection is explicit that it adds no extra power or performance — with a body kit, dark exterior detailing, unique wheels and sport seats over the 187-hp 2.5-liter. Unlike the rest of the gas range, N Line cars are built in Ulsan, South Korea rather than Alabama.
2022 Hyundai Tucson XRT
XRT arrives during the 2022 model year as the Tucson's first rugged-look trim, listing at $31,850 front-drive. Like the N Line it is an appearance package rather than a mechanical one, trading the N Line's body kit for dark grey exterior trim, roof rails and its own wheel design. Mechanically it is identical to every other gas Tucson: 187-hp 2.5-liter, eight-speed automatic, optional HTRAC all-wheel drive.
2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited
Limited tops the gas range at $35,300 front-drive and $36,800 with all-wheel drive. It is the only 2022 Tucson with the twin 10.3-inch screens, and it piles on leather, heated front and rear seats, LED headlights, a surround-view camera, rear automatic braking, parking sensors and blind-spot cameras. The catch: that bigger screen only supports wired Apple CarPlay, and many physical controls become capacitive touch panels.
2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Blue
Blue is the entry Tucson Hybrid at $29,050 and the most efficient 2022 Tucson of any kind at 38 mpg city, highway and combined. It pairs a 180-hp 1.6-liter turbo with an electric motor for 226 hp and 258 lb-ft, and — unusually for a hybrid — uses a conventional six-speed automatic rather than a CVT, which reviewers said makes it feel more natural to drive. All-wheel drive is standard.
2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid SEL Convenience
SEL Convenience is the middle Tucson Hybrid at $31,650 and The Car Connection's overall pick of the 2022 range. It layers wireless charging, a 10.3-inch digital instrument panel, a power liftgate and a panoramic sunroof onto the hybrid powertrain, all with standard all-wheel drive. Larger wheels cost it a little efficiency against the Blue — 37/36 mpg instead of 38/38.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited
Hybrid Limited is the loaded conventional hybrid at $37,350, which The Car Connection called the top of the non-plug-in charts. It combines the 226-hp hybrid powertrain and standard all-wheel drive with matching 10.3-inch multimedia and instrument screens, heated front and rear seats, LED headlights, a surround-view camera, leather upholstery and blind-spot cameras.
2022 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid SEL
The Plug-In Hybrid SEL, at about $35,510, is the cheapest way into the Tucson's 261-hp plug-in powertrain. It uses the same 1.6-liter turbo hybrid system as the regular hybrid but with a 13.8-kWh battery, giving an EPA-rated 33 miles of electric range, 80 MPGe and 35 mpg combined once the battery is depleted. All-wheel drive is standard, and the extra weight makes the ride heave a little over lumpy roads.
2022 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid Limited
Plug-In Hybrid Limited is the most expensive 2022 Tucson at roughly $43,260. It puts the Limited's twin 10.3-inch screens, leather, heated front and rear seats, surround-view camera and blind-spot cameras on top of the 261-hp plug-in powertrain. At up to 4,235 lb it is also the heaviest Tucson, which The Car Connection noted can make the suspension heave over undulating pavement.

2023 Hyundai Tucson
2023 Hyundai Tucson SE
SE remains the entry Tucson at $26,900 front-drive for 2023, still running the 187-hp 2.5-liter and eight-speed automatic. It keeps the 8.0-inch touchscreen — which, unlike the bigger 10.3-inch unit, supports wireless Apple CarPlay — plus cloth upholstery, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams and rear occupant alert. The NHTSA rated the 2023 Tucson four stars overall, a notch below its IIHS Top Safety Pick+.
2023 Hyundai Tucson SEL
SEL costs $28,500 front-drive and is again The Car Connection's value pick. It adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors and active lane control, and for 2023 the Premium Package is dropped while the Convenience Package gains synthetic leather upholstery alongside its power sunroof, wireless charging, 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster and power tailgate.
2023 Hyundai Tucson XRT
XRT lists at $33,725 front-drive and gains two notable upgrades for 2023: the 10.3-inch touchscreen becomes standard and synthetic leather replaces cloth. It keeps the rugged exterior treatment, roof rails and its own wheels over the standard 187-hp 2.5-liter powertrain. Those larger wheels cost about 1 mpg against the SE and SEL.
2023 Hyundai Tucson N Line
N Line costs $33,775 front-drive, a whisker above the XRT, and swaps that trim's outdoorsy look for a body kit, dark exterior accents and sport seats. For 2023 it too picks up the 10.3-inch touchscreen as standard. This turned out to be the last year for a gasoline Tucson N Line in the U.S. — from 2024 the badge moved exclusively to the hybrid.

Limited tops the gas range at $36,160 front-drive and $37,660 with all-wheel drive. It bundles the 10.3-inch touchscreen, LED headlights, leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, a surround-view camera, blind-spot cameras, rear automatic emergency braking and front and rear parking sensors. SE opens the 2024 range at $27,500 front-drive. The pre-facelift NX4 carries on with the 187-hp 2.5-liter and eight-speed automatic, but EPA figures slip a notch this year to 25/32 mpg front-drive. A more meaningful change is under the skin: 2024 Tucsons add rear seat-mounted side airbags, taking the total from six to eight.
