BMW X1 — Specs, Trims, Prices & Owner Reviews
The BMW X1 is the smallest and least expensive SUV in the BMW range. Three generations appear in this period, and the change between the first two was fundamental: the E84 sold through 2015 was rear-wheel-drive-based and shared its platform with the 3 Series, while the F48 that replaced it for 2016 switched to a transverse, front-wheel-drive layout borrowed from the Mini.

BMW X1: General Information
The BMW X1 is the smallest and least expensive SUV in the BMW range. Three generations appear in this period, and the change between the first two was fundamental: the E84 sold through 2015 was rear-wheel-drive-based and shared its platform with the 3 Series, while the F48 that replaced it for 2016 switched to a transverse, front-wheel-drive layout borrowed from the Mini.
That change cost the X1 some of its sporting reputation but transformed its packaging — the F48 is shorter than the E84 yet carries more luggage and far more rear legroom. U.S. cars used a 228-hp 2.0-liter turbo four, front-drive as the sDrive28i or all-wheel drive as the xDrive28i.
The third-generation U11 arrived for 2023, all-wheel drive only, with 241 hp and a seven-speed dual-clutch in place of the old torque-converter automatic. A 312-hp M35i joined for 2024, reaching 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. Every X1 seats five.
