BMW X4: General Information
The BMW X4 is the coupe-roofed version of the X3, introduced for the 2015 model year. Mechanically the two are near-identical — same platform, same engines, same Spartanburg assembly line — but the X4 trades roughly 10 cu ft of luggage space and some rear headroom for a fastback roofline.
The first-generation F26 offered 240-hp and 300-hp petrol engines, joined for 2016 by the M Performance M40i, the first X4 to wear an M badge. The second-generation G02 arrived for 2019, larger and lighter, standardising on the 248-hp xDrive30i and a 355-hp M40i that rose to 382 hp for 2020.
The full X4 M followed for 2020 with the M3's S58 twin-turbo six, in 473-hp and 503-hp Competition forms. Every X4 is all-wheel drive, seats five, and carries 17.7 cu ft in F26 form or 18.5 cu ft as the G02.
