Every U.S. C-Max Hybrid paired a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with an 88-kW electric traction motor, a 1.4-kWh lithium-ion battery and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Combined output was 188 hp, while final EPA ratings were 42 mpg city, 38 highway and 40 combined.
The tall body provided 24.5 cu ft of cargo room behind the rear seat and 52.6 cu ft with it folded. The range used SE and SEL trims early in its run, with Titanium replacing SEL for 2017; base new-car pricing generally ran from the mid-$20,000s to the upper-$20,000s before U.S. Hybrid production ended in mid-2018.
