BMW X3: General Information
The BMW X3 is the brand's compact luxury SUV and, for much of this period, its best-selling model in the United States. Three generations appear here, all built at BMW's Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.
The F25 ran through 2017 with 240-hp and 300-hp petrol engines and a 180-hp turbodiesel that returned 30 mpg combined. The G01 replaced it for 2018 on the CLAR platform, standardising on a 248-hp 2.0-liter turbo four as the 30i and adding a 355-hp — later 382-hp — M40i. A plug-in hybrid xDrive30e was offered for 2020 and 2021 with about 18 miles of electric range, and the full-fat X3 M arrived for 2020 with up to 503 hp.
The fourth-generation G45 arrived for 2025 with mild-hybrid assistance across the range, simplified naming — 30 xDrive and M50 xDrive — and 31.5 cu ft of luggage space, the most of any X3. Every X3 seats five.
